Dr. Brian J. Cole

Dr. Brian J. Cole is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine, cartilage restoration, and minimally invasive surgery. He is an Associate Chairman and Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology at Rush University in Chicago. He is a managing partner and the Chair of Surgery at Midwest Orthopedics. Dr. Brian J. Cole attended the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and earned his MD and MBA. 

Dr. Cole focuses on specialties such as the shoulder, elbow, knee surgery, and arthroscopic and cartilage-based procedures, like a meniscal allograft transplantation, cartilage cell transplantation, and fresh osteochondral allografts. He has published over 1000 articles and textbooks regarding his research in medicine, biology, shoulder stability, and triage repair. In 2020, Dr. Brian J. Cole became the President of the Arthroscopy Association. He was able to influence medical education and conduct research. 

Dr. Brian J. Cole was named one of the Best Doctors in Chicago and the U.S. He was featured on the cover of the Chicago magazine as “Chicago’s top Doctor”. In 2023, Dr. Brian J. Cole joined EpiBone. His goal is to teach about the growing living bone and cartilage grafts for transplants. He has improved graft rewarming protocol by introducing a rewarming strategy to preserve metabolic function for chondrocytes during implantation. He has also optimized graft handling to reduce thermal damage, which reduced cell death. He also addressed immunology risk and was able to reduce inflammation. Additionally, he proved that soaking grafts in concentrated bone marrow leads to a year of reduced pain. Lastly, he expanded the viable window for grafting to 14-28 days, which allowed for better surgeries.

Dr. Brian J. Cole has performed many of these surgeries himself, such as the ACL reconstruction with BMAD injection, implantation of autologous cartilage, bioplasty, microfractures, PCL reconstruction, chondroplasty, and more. Dr. Brian J. Cole prioritizes his work and skills. In conclusion, Dr. Brian J. Cole was a surgeon, professor, leader, and well-known researcher who was very compassionate in medicine and the world of surgery.
